The Coton de Tulear, officially recognized by the AKC in 2014, is a rare and affectionate companion breed from Madagascar, historically favored by royalty. Named after its soft, cotton-like coat and the port city of Tulear, this dog is known for its deep bond with humans. It is often described as responsive, witty, and emotionally intuitive—sometimes even vocalizing back during conversations.

With their expressive eyes, cotton-like coats, and rare status, the Coton de Tulear is an absolutely adorable breed that continues to charm dog lovers and even celebrities worldwide. Originally descended from shipboard dogs and later bred exclusively for nobility, the Coton is now cherished for both its companionship and hypoallergenic qualities. Though no dog is entirely allergen-free, Cotons shed minimally, making them suitable for those with mild allergies.
